| Tianjin German style district was located on the west side of Haihe River, HexiDistrict of Tianjin, as a typical representative of Tianjin concession buildings withhigh historical and cultural value. This area featured more well preserved historicbuildings with a pleasant street scale and a quiet environment but having manyproblems like buildings aging, traffic congestion, and complex society composition.To this end, the government of Tianjin gradually took measures to remediate theneighborhood environment in Tianjin German style district. With the renovation, thehistoric features of the German style district have also been damaged; the vitality ofthe neighborhood is gradually losing. Therefore how to protect the historical culturevalue in the city historical environment and to seek the dynamic balance in theeconomic development and cultural protection have become the key issue to discussin Tianjin German style district protection.By the study of the historical background, the present situation and the futureplanning and reconstruction of German style district, the paper analyzes the conflictbetween the historical and cultural preservation and the pursuit of commercialinterests in the process of historical environment updating of a city. The paper putsforward reasonable business planning advice to the future planning and updating ofthe German style district from two aspects: space conception and business functions,in order to achieve an organic integrating of the planning culture awareness and thebusiness function realization and stimulate the vitality of the historic district in thisarea.At the end of the paper, based on the thorough analysis of the business planningof the AA innovation research project–“Tianjin German style district planning”,expecting to inspire more discussion and researches in this field to solve somepractical problems in the process of historical environment protection and reuse underthe current urban construction condition of China. |
