With the constantly development of aviation and space industry, there are moreand more mission of deep-space exploration. Today, we are getting more informationfrom spacecraft than ever. These large amounts of information, especially graphicinformation, need to be compressed as fast as possible so as to be transmitted rapidly.Image compression encoding reduces the redundancy of image data, and then reducesthe space for data storage and data volume when transmitting.In order to set an international standard for spatial data compression, TheConsultative Committee for Space Data System established a CCSDS imagecompression algorithm in the blue book in November2005. The complexity ofalgorithm is relatively low and parallel computing is easy to realize. So the algorithmis suitable for hardware implementation. Thus by the hardware platform, the CCSDSalgorithm can be widely applied in the field of aerospace.Up to now, there are not a few research results and papers about CCSDScompression algorithm in China. But these results and papers have imperfectionsmore or less, even copied each other. To this problem, this thesis scrutinizes theCCSDS blue book122.0-B-1and put forward a new implementation method. Thedissertation researches these aspects of the algorithm as follows:Firstly, detailed study of CCSDS image compression algorithm, deeply analysingand straightening out some mistakes of other papers.Secondly, realizing the CCSDS image compression algorithm by C language,getting the experiment results.Thirdly, an introduction of the FPGA implementation platform, pointing out theadvantages of Verilog HDL. Description of the implementation method andexplanation of each module.Finally, the overall framework of the implementation, simulation and verificationof each module on Modelsim platform.
