As the bridge and the link of power transmission in power system, distributiontransformer has important influence on the safe and stable operation of power system.However, due to the rising power load, the management work becomes heavier andmalignant fault always occur. Therefore, it’s very important to develop monitoringtechnology for distribution transformer to enhance the operation reliability of the powergrid and power quality.First of all, power distribution automatization system is introduced briefly in thispaper. Then the power equipment monitoring methods at home and abroad are comparedand analysis by the advantages and limitations. Combined with the actual functiondemand, a kind of running state monitoring plan for distribution transformer based on thetechnology of MCU and GSM is proposed, and monitoring backstage system which isdesigned through computer programming has remotely connects with each distributiontransformer monitoring device to realize the automatic information management andstate diagnosis to its state characteristics.Main function of the hardware part of the monitoring system is to realize the dataacquisition and data communication. Specific hardware circuits are designed according tothe modular design method, and different circuits are connected to achieve the functionof detection. Hardware part is mainly divided into four sections of power resourcemodule, data acquisition module, center control circuit and communication module. Thesoftware part, mainly including system initialization, GSM communication man-machineinterface and data calculation, is implemented by VB and Access database adopting theidea of structuralization. All the parameters of the distribution transformer are stored andcalculated to determine whether to send out related control command.Finally, the whole monitoring system is tested to verify the feasibility of the design.The testing results show that when the abnormal operation or a failure of the distributiontransformer occurs, the monitoring system can quickly judge and prompt the staff;Various parameters can be sent to the control room timely and accurately, andMonitoring software process data normally, which is the desired effect.
