Design And Study On Healing Garden

Lang times ago, different civilization had been aware of the great impact of environment on health. With the establishment of the mechanistic medical model, hospital separated with garden. In1946, World Health Organization negatived the viewpoint health is free from disease. Health is the good state of body, the spirit and social life, not only have the physical health, but also psychology health and a good adaptation to society.In1977, George Engel put forward Bio-Psycho-sociology medical model, and people realized the importance of psychology health and sociology health.Once again, people realize that environment have an impact on health, therefore, healing garden came into being through the combination of hospital and garden, and developed rapidly, people’s increasing health need exceeds the research for healing gardens.So,this paper introduce some theory and practice on healing garden by colligation, analysis, survey and sum up. Hope it have some reference for the study of healing garden.First, this paper introduced the concept of healing landscape and other associated concept (environmental health, environmental health law).healing garden refers to the natural and human landscape that could be helpful to keeping or rehabilitating good physical, mental, social and economic status, classified the healing garden by existed places and the way of participation, and arranged its history and current situation.Secondly, this paper summarized the basic theory of healing garden, such as stress reduction, attention recovery, and sense of control, social support, physical movement and exercise, natural distractions. And the author believes the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine could be used in the study of healing garden, such as equilibrium between yin and yang, five phases, and studied the three-dimensional mechanism of healing garden.Thirdly, fifteen design guidelines are described and illustrated, such as security, encouraging movement, visible, abundant space and facilities, comfortable, privacy, easily accessible, ease of maintenance. This paper proposes design points of soft and hard elements.Fourth, take Suzhou Taihu Xishan sanatorium as example, analysis of the solutions to common problems of healing gardens.Fifth, summed up the innovation and shortcoming of this study, and proposed the trends of healing landscape.
