Study On The Spatial Structure’s Evolution In The Central City Of Suzhou Based On The Production Of Space

Since the reform and opening up, the central city of Suzhou expands rapidly andcontinuously. Its spatial structure gradually evolved from the initial single center tomulti-center, and the phenomenon of metropolitanization is more and more obvious.According to the new theory of Marxism space, the space reorganization is essentiallythe product of social change. If we do not pay serious concerns to the social systemswhich exists close relationship to the space activities, we will comprehend the spacereorganization incompletely. In view of this, this paper based on the theory of theproduction of space, a comprehensive analysis framework of the evolution of urbanspatial structure is established. It tries to combine the evolution of the central city’sspatial structure in Suzhou with the change of social system which is concrete and local.Based on the new analysis view of the production of space, this paper analyses thecharacteristics and the mechanism of the spatial structure’s evolution. Based on thecritical perspective of the production of space, the paper put forward some strategies tooptimize the production of space of the central city in Suzhou.Firstly, based on the theory of the production of space, this paper analyses theoperational logic between the production of space and the evolution of urban spatialstructure. Based on the interaction of "Capital-Power-Space", this paper tries toconstruct a comprehensive analysis framework of the evolution of urban spatialstructure.Secondly, according to the different power of the production of space, the specialstructural evolution of the central city in Suzhou is divided into three stages since thereform and opening up. Based on the interaction of "Capital-Power-Space", this paperanalyses the characteristics and the mechanism of the spatial structure’s evolution in thedifferent stage.Finally, based on the reflection of the production of space, this paper analyses itsshortcomings in the central city of Suzhou. Combined with David Harvey’s urban ideal,this paper tries to propose some optimization strategies to the central city’s space inSuzhou.
