Research On The Cultural Activation Of Hubu Hill Historical Block, Xuzhou

City is crystallization of material and spiritual culture for human, which developed with theprogress of human civilization. As the witness of the urban development, the historical and cultural blocksare often with high population density as well as relatively active social life in a certain period. Most ofthese areas are rich in historical sites, relatively intact preservation with unique local characteristics andcultural style, which are the concentrated reflection of city culture characteristics, and with high historicalresearch, folk custom experience and aesthetic value. They are also the carrier of city memories, and theextremely attractive resource for city tourism.Due to the influence of the flood disaster for many times, the tangible buildings of Xuzhou justhave a history of over300years, and most of them are focused on Hubu hill which with high terrain. Inearly liberation, Hubu hill was surrounded by hundreds of courtyards and thousands of houses that sincelate Ming dynasty, which could be definitely called the ancient building museum of Xuzhou. Unfortunately,however, after the political instability of60’s and70’s, the land grabbing for building without planning andsupervision of80’s, and the commercial development in late20th century, the Hubu hill historical blockshad been damaged disastrously.As the epitome of politics, economy and culture for Xuzhou, how to protect and develop Hubuhill scientifically and rationally, which not only protect the building itself to reflect historical style andfeatures but also excavate the cultural characteristics to stimulate the vitality of the blocks has become theconcern of all people who focus on the development of Hubu hill.On the basis of reseach of relative literature as well as field trip, from the perspective of culturalactivation, the paper is aims to through the excavation of culture type and characteristics of Hubu hillhistorical blocks, the integration analysis of the form and function, propose a cultural innovation form thatconjuction with self characteristics of Hubu hill for Xuzhou.
