Study On The Protection And Activation Of Foshan Historical And Cultural Street

Foshan is located in the central part of the Pearl River Delta,on the west of Guangzhou.Two rivers flowing through the territory,Foshan is famous for its Lingnan culture,which is an important part of Cantonese culture.In history,Foshan was one of the four major cities in china,and also one of the four famous towns.As the city's rounds of renovations completed,historic architecture in town has been demolished,the texture of the streets and lanes has been destroyed,the indigenous residents in the blocks have been relocated,the living atmosphere in the neighborhood has been weakened,and the intangible cultural heritage has been gradually disappearing.Although there are different kinds of remediation projects,the historical and cultural blocks are just in a state of passive protection,and it is still urgent to find a suitable way to protect and activate Foshan.The study focused on eight historical and cultural blocks in Chancheng District of Foshan,searching the documents and regulations related to Foshan historical and cultural blocks to understand the history of social and urban development in the city and the current status of those historic districts.The study sumed up the changes in the city and the cause of the spatial pattern of historic neighborhoods.By analyzing past protection and activation work and by digging into different types of cases,the study concluded lessons learned from the past.Combined with the above-mentioned discovered deficiencies,the study also put forward new ways of protection and activation to make up those deficiencies.The article discussed various factors such as social structure,economy,culture,and administration,and proposed suitable protection and activation methods for Foshan's future development.
