Decades of accumulated industrial architectural remains is disappeared from our vision at an unprecedented rate under the rolling wheel of market economy, which have to be considered as a fault in the history of urban civilization. These aged industrial buildings is an important part of the modern industrial civilization and city development, what’s more it’s a part of the memories of city for generations. Meanwhile numerous industrial construction that are less than the normal durable years and still have the use value are demolished, which causes huge loss in economy and culture. Consequently, the study of the industrial architectural remains’excavation, conservation and recycling has vital significance.In this paper, focusing on the study of industrial architectural remains’protection, via collecting, investigating and analyzing the data, we define the concept and scope of industrial architectural remains. Based on the urban planology, landscape science, and architecture, we emphatically analyze and introduce the value basis, theoretical basis and development of the recycling of industrial architectural remains. At the same time, combined with the analysis and preliminary conception of the transformation and renovation of Hangzhou boiler factory, we discuss and study the operational and propagable measures, design strategies and remould technique on the industrial architectural remains’protection and recycling. Finally, we provide some suggestions and reference on how to organic continue and protect the industrial architectural remains in the development of modem civilization.
