With the development of the urban agglomeration in our country, it becomes more andmore important to explore the public transportation problems for improving the transportationsystem in the urban agglomeration. This paper studies the bus route designing and pricingproblems considering the bus operator’s profit and passengers’ general travel cost to be inoptimum state.Based on the main traffic artery in linear urban agglomeration, and the precondition thatthe bus operation conforms to current traffic policies, the paper applies mathematicalprogramming method, uses the total cost as total cost and the bus frequency as decisionvariables to construct a nonlinear integer programming TRO (Transit Route Optimum design)model. The constraint conditions are: the routes are designed in both directions, thefrequencies are not allowed to outrange the maximum value, the bus volume limitation, thesection flow limitation and the frequencies must be positive integer number. The model setsthe OD matrix, the speed and operation time of the bus, passengers’ value of time, theoperation cost and depreciation cost as known parameters. The result of the frequenciesdecide whether the bus route should be designed between cities or not. So the optimum busfrequency results in the bus route layout in the urban agglomeration. This thesis use Lingo tosolve the numerical experiment based on TOR model, the result proves the model istheoretically feasible and of potential value in practice.Based on the designed bus route, this paper constructs a bi-level programming modelaiming at maximum bus operator profit and the passenger’s general travel cost. The decisionvariable of the upper level is the ticket price, and the adjustment of the ticket price is limited. The lower level is based on the stochastic traffic assignment model, it sets passengers’ flow onthe bus route as decision variable and the volume of section limitation as constraint conditions. This paper proves that the model’s solution is existent and unique. The sensitive analysismethod is used to calculate the optimum ticket price. The research indicates this study can beused in the practical operations to adjust the ticket price. This thesis brings out the model and algorithms based on the bus route design and priceestimation problems for the first time in linear urban agglomeration. The research indicatesthat the model and method referred in this thesis is feasible. Furthermore, the result of thenumerical experiments indicate that the research can provide decisions and basis for bus routeoptimal design, bus ticket price adjustment, operation and scheduling process.
