The Research On Shizhu Watchtower In The View Of Construction

Nowadays, the involution of the modern transportation and information technologybecome a threat to regional characters of modern buildings and culture diversity.Although most of the Shizhu watch towers were built around19century, they wereslightly affected by the globalization and the industrial revolution and present distinctoriginal characters; therefore, it will be of great value to the further culture research.In order to meet the special need, traditional defensive buildings always requireand present the most developed building skills. Therefore, it is reasonable to do researchon the building skills of defensive buildings, which leads to the research onwatchtowers. On the base of field investigation and data processing, this dissertationindicates the features of the modern Shizhu watchtower and tries to unravel howregional building skills effect on building forms. This research will provide reliable casereferences and research foundation to the further research on the history of buildingtechnology.The first part of the dissertation provides an overview of various traditionalChinese native defensive structures. Then there are comparative analysis of theirfunction requirements and the respond of the building skills. The summarization ofconstruct factors and features which effected on forms is the basement of the furtherresearch on Shizhu watchtower. Based on Chapter3which presents the result of thefield investigation and mapping, chapters4indicates Shizhu watchtowers’ space andconstruct features and unravel their generation and development.Shizhu watchtower as a special traditional building is an important part oftraditional residence. This dissertation is fundamental research, but it is meaningful forpreservation and conservation, and of great academic value to the research on traditionalarchitectural culture and the development of territorial building technology and regionalecology.
