The Research Of Watchtower In Linwu

Linwu Tower is an Seal-style towers' construction,which is rare in southern Hunan's vernacular architecture.Both its function and its shape are in compliance with the current academic definition.At the same time,it is public buildings of local people to avoid blessing-leaked and bless booming-wealth.Since the southern Song dynasty,after historical changes in hundreds of years,it has always been regarded as the geomantic and treasured site of its village or clan.Its main architecture form is “Seal” erect type,with thick walls around.In order to protect villages from foreign forces and guarantee security,the architecture usually built tens or hundreds meters away below the village,echoing each other.In terms of layout,it has different height,simple and practical decoration and different internal structure.With strong custom characteristic and ancient residential architecture style of southern Hunan,folks usually use it as religious shine,private schoo l or pavilions.Through field research and consider the geography-related culture and sociological theory,this paper focus on the existing towers of Linwu area.It makes deep research on many respects,such as system overviews,building features,distribute characteristics,relationship between location and village layout and value and protection.This paper are divided into six chapters.The first chapter discusses the background and previous research,describes the main purpose and significance of the study,as well as the framework of the article.The second chapter describes overviews of Linwu and Linwu tower,including the natural environment features,cultural environment and the distribution and conservation status.he third chapter pays attention to the architectural features and makes research on shape,material,function and decoration etc.The forth chapter analysis factors of how the tower form and how its function changing.The fifth chapter describes the type,origin,distribution and characteristics of national tower.Through comparative study,this paper makes the origin and development of tower clear.On the basic of comprehensive study and combine the experiment of historical architecture protection,the last chapter includes some ideas about how to protect and update Linwu tower.Nowadays,studies on vernacular architecture have a growing concern and the results continue to improve.Linwu tower reminds us diverse types and very-high skills of Chinese vernacular architecture.Through this research,we hope to bring theoretical and practical significance to Chinese tower and vernacular architecture in Xiangnan area.
