With the development of our country’s modernization, land and water transportation volumeis increasing, resulting in the ship-bridge collision accidents is becoming more and more frequent, while great loss and damage to the economy and environment is caused by the collision, so thateffective solution to ship-bridge collision are the common aspirations of ship owners, bridgeowners and the transportation industry. Ship-collision problem is complicated, involving severalprofessional mechanics knowledge. In this paper, ship hydrodynamics and dynamic mechanics arecombined to deal with the ship-bridge problem, an engineering model, which can capture thecollision and motion of the ship, is build. It can describe the movement of ship in all process ofcollision, trajectory of ship and collision force of the pier, also, the possibility of secondary andsubsequent collisions can be predicted. Finally the results computed with this model are comparedwith the measurement of a full-scale ship-bridge collision, and the model in this paper is verified. The context can be divided into four sections:(1) The influence of fluid on ship moving was analyzed, based on the hydrodynamic equation, thehydrodynamic equations describing the ship moving under impact loading was established. Forsimplicity the linear hydrodynamic equations was used.(2) Based on the external collision dynamics, the planar rigid movement of the ship was analyzedduring the collision process. The interior collision dynamics analysis was carried out. Using theFEM software analyzed the ship’s structure and material and strain rate effect, and the courseof the recovery factor of collision was determinate, proposed the engineering collision model.(3) A complete MATLAB program was write for calculate the progress of four kinds ship beforeand after collision, also, it can work out the trajectory of the ship and head-on impact force onpier, and the possibilities of the occurrence of secondary collision of ship, and multiplecollisions with other piers were predicted too.(4) By compared with the results of the real ship collisions, the ship-bridge collisions engineeringmodel on this paper was verified.
