Hydraulic rotary actuator is one of the most important actuator in hydraulic drive system. The most outstanding advantage of hydraulic rotary actuator is that it can make the load from the linear motion directly to reciprocating motion without any transmission mechanism. Its performance directly impact on the stability and reliability of the whole system. Compared with other transmission mechanism, the hydraulic rotary actuator has a simple structure, high transmission efficiency, large output torque, cost effective. It can be said that hydraulic actuators is the pressure swing into the most reasonable and the most compact device.In this paper, we mainly did the finite element analysis and optimizations for some main structures of internal hydraulic rotary actuators, which improved the overall performance of the hydraulic rotary actuators, reduced the use of materials and reduced the weight of the actuators. So the actuators could be used in some occasions, where mobility and portability were required.Firstly, using hydraulic rotary actuator structure mapping data as input conditions, the composition and working principle of hydraulic rotary vane actuators was introduced, the basic parameters was calculated. Secondly, this paper analyzed the leakage channels of the hydraulic rotary vane actuators, and calculated the leakage of inner and outer actuators respectively in detailed, deduced the volume efficiency. Thirdly, we created the FEA model of the hydraulic rotary vane actuators by using the Pro/E software. Strength and stiffness of hydraulic rotary actuator analysis using the finite element analysis software AWE. The FEA results show that the anti-deformation and intensity performance of the actuators were reasonable. Finally, an optimization design for the initial scheme based on actuator cylinder and stator model is conducted using ANSYS Workbench optimization module, the optimization results show that the anti-deformation and intensity performance of the actuator cylinder and stator were reasonable.This method of analysis and optimization also has an important significance to design and analyze other parts of actuators, which can make the actuators have the best overall performance. Also this method provides the analytical basis for internal hydraulic rotary vane actuators of different models and different pressures. This method of analysis, optimization and experiment also has an important significance to develop the whole series of new hydraulic rotary vane actuators of different materials.
