With the development of the economy and the society, natural gas as a kind of very clean and efficient energy becomes increasingly popular for industrial and civil use. Compared with coal, the transportation of natural gas is quite simple and pipeline is used in most cases. Therefore, the construction of natural gas long-distance pipeline develops rapidly. At present, the total length of natural gas pipeline in our country has reaches tens of thousands of kilometers. Natural gas compressor station is an integral part of long-distance pipeline system and the centrifugal compressor plays an extremely important role in it.Take the Shan-Jing natural gas pipeline as an example, eight compressor stations with thirty centrifugal compressors have completed since then. The gas in pipeline is pressurized by compressor to get kinetic energy and overcome the friction and therefore is transported for distance of thousands of kilometers.As rotating equipment, the compressors need to keep operating to make sure the continuity of gas transportation. However the rotating equipment may break down for various reasons inevitably, field operator must pay most attention on the real-time monitoring for compressor.To make sure the normal transportation of the gas, it’s important to monitor the compressor. The parameters such as compressor vibration can be collected by monitoring facility. Field operator can collect status signal and analyze the parameter through the automatic system. It’s a necessary way to master the compressor running state, to carry out preventive maintenance for hidden trouble and deal with the malfunction.This article mainly introduces the basic knowledge of fault diagnosis and explains the importance of vibration monitoring with the field operation. The reliability and necessity of condition monitoring is discussed by combining theory with practice. The condition monitoring and analyzing method is discussed in order to attract the attention of operating crew to master the monitoring methods to ensure the safety and steady running of compressors.
