Integrated Dormitory Furniture Research And Design

The education cause in China is flourishing with the development of improving in national economic level. The number of college students in residence is always soaring. As an important place of satisfying the needs of living and learning for college students, dormitory environment and relevant facilities are give more and more social attention.In the context of the overall development of social economy, science and technology, the contemporary college students’psychological characteristics, quality of life and lifestyle also had significant changes and improved. Their demand for dormitory furniture is rather than the level of a single-function. The new modular dormitory bed has been occurred and is becoming more common, which is combining sleeping, storage, recreation,adapting of E-Learning style and other functions into one product. However, it is also increasing the per capita dormitory space and reducing the number of students that can be accommodated in each unit of dormitory.However, increasing the capacity of each dormitory is still the prerequisite for the universities which need to solve the problem of the surging number of dormitory in our country are still using bunk beds as the main dormitory furniture, which is relatively less space. This situation leads to the conflict between using the dormitory furniture experience for students and the increasing capacity of each dorm for universities.The object of this subject study is just a modern modular dormitory bed used for college students. It’s a kind of multifunctional furniture that for the purpose of containing the follow functions:Sleeping, Recreation, Learning and Storage. In the meantime, it can also increase space utilization. Based on theoretical research and design practice, so as analyzing and summarizing the market situation, functional requirement and deficiency of existing,the paper will put forward in designing elements and principles and propose a design plan of a new modular dormitory bed. The author will try to use the combination of integration guidelines and design theories such as the systematic design methodology, ergonomic, and other related design theories, combining with the current level of economic and conditions of manufacturing process and other constraints of objective conditions to try to balance between space utilization and user experience of the college students’dormitory furniture by the design of rational function, function structure spatial arrangement and forming, which is for in multifunctional integrated design as a starting point.
