With the development of tourism, conflicts between ecological & environmental conservation and development have become more and more prominent. Carrying out the research on scenic area ecological environment problem has important practical significance.Taking Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area as the research units, support of GIS and RS technology, this paper mainly analyses the ecological sensitivity of this famous area. The results of this study are as follows:1. This study first reviewed the research background, purpose and significance. Main existing problems, such as tourism environmental pressure, eutrophication, agricultural non-point source pollution, and soil & water conservation.., were put forward based on actual situation of West Lake Scenic Area.2. In this study, a spatial database of West Lake Scenic Area, which integrated basic geographic data and relative themtic data, was constructed. Precise digital elevation model was maked using large scale topographic map. Entire work is based on GIS platform, which guarantee the precision of the analysis, thus providing great support to this project.3. Based on the characteristic of natural ecology and social ecology of West Lake Scenic Area, taking example by related researched, elevation, slope, aspect, soil, vegetation land, streams and rivers, air quality and geological hazard were selected to form the ecological sensitivity assessment system. A total of ten facors were analyzed and ecological environment sensitivity was evaluated, including highly sensitive area, moderately sensitive area, low sensitive area and non-sensitive area.
