Since ancient times, games have always been part of human life. In recent decades, with the development computer and wide spread internet, online games have been more pervasive nowadays than early-stage Famicom. Game genres are flourishing, and the costumes of game characters are diversified. West countries and Japan are now dominating the game-play industry. Being a rising star of online game, Chinese game developers have to produce some Chinese style games. One sad fact has to be mentioned in prosperous developing Chinese game-play industry is that Chinese game developers ignore ethnic elements in game developing when they stride towards internationalization. All they did in the past was imitating character designing from foreign game developers. Imitation shows that Chinese game developers lack of perception of Chinese culture, which is the bottleneck of internationalization progress.The manifestation of traditional elements in game should be reflected in character setting, not just in background stories and Chinese style buildings in scene setup. The manifestation of game character style is most embodied in costumes. Therefore, Chinese game developers need to integrate national characteristics and culture into game developing if they want to promote Chinese games to the world. So for this specific problem, this paper aims at researching on successful game character costume designing in foreign games. The case study will conclude the principles and concepts of game character costume designing. At same time, this paper will explore the ways that how to integrate Chinese culture into game character costume designing, verify and conclude a reasonable and feasible method.The main object of this paper is League of Legends, produced by Riot, an American online game developer. Game players of LOL has been growing continuously since the game was brought into the market. What is amazing is that this game has attracted a lot of female players, and this phenomenon draws attention of the author. Before doing in-depth research, the author was deeply appealed by graphic design, atmosphere and costumes when she entered in the game for the very first time. Comparing to "slavish imitation" of Chinese game developers, the author deems that it is necessary to research LOL and use it as reference to create an exclusive Chinese game style. This paper carries a systematic research on costumes of LOL, including designing type, theme, style, color and texture. In the research, the author will analyze how costumes affect game character designing. As U.S is a multi-cultural country, so in the game costumes reflect different ethnic characteristics. What the author think highly of is Chinese style costumes. In LOL, all the Chinese models are drawn mixed with typical West style. This kind of integration could not only give players visual shock, but consolidate foundation of West style. Game developing technique like this is what Chinese game developers should learn and use. In practice, the author applies this elements integration technique in costume designing in the game "Wah Ching Chi", collecting different costume features of different dynasties, and hoping traditional Chinese culture could be shown in this game by time-transgressive elements integration.Through case study and practice, the author has three writing ideas:1 Costume designing should be incorporated with background stories.2 Looking for proper elements for costumes.3 Integrating all the elements in hand. Local game developers should have acknowledgment of Chinese culture and sense of mission of culture inheritance for better development of Chinese local games. The primary of this paper aims at arousing attention to sinicization of costume designing, inheriting Chinese culture, strengthening Chinese culture standard speculation. Let more players experience Chinese culture, better propel Chinese game development and accelerate the speed of internationalization.
