Basalt filament is made of basalt, which melted at high temperature 1400-1500 ℃, the platinum-rhodium alloy bushing drawing together, Basalt filament has high strength, high temperature resistance, and high chemical stability.It is a new high-performance material. Basalt filament has a broad application prospects in textile composite materials, together with carbon fibers, aramid fibers and glass fibers, it is known as the four national focuses on the development of high-performance materials.But basalt filament is a brittle material, it has very smooth surface, poor cluster and wear-resisting which bring a series of difficulties to weave, it can be very serious or even impossible to make weaving, thus restricting basalt filaments applications.In terms of that the basalt filament surface is smooth for sizing and weaving,this paper aims at sizing for the basalt filament.Using low-temperature plasma processing technology treated on the basalt filaments then sizing for the basalt filament.It can be conclude from the following aspects:(1)The performance of basalt filament is tested systemly. During the experiment, we design a new method of manking basalt monofilament strength and tensile test sample,it overcomes the traditional defects that monofilament slip easily from the cla mp mouth during the test;Another advantage of this method is to make one sample to test two times, so as to improve the test efficiency.(2)Infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy were used to study the structure, surface morphology and the mec hanical properties of basalt filament, the results indicate that its surface is very smooth and have no effective chemical functional groups.The diameter of basalt monofilament is 8.03μm, the breaking strength is 7.74 c N, the elongation is 2.77%, the initial modulus is 2501.35 c N/dt, the static friction factor is 0.3127, the kinetic friction factor of 0.2147; The moisture regain of basalt multifilament is 0.51%, the density is 2.6550 g/cm3, the linear density is 576 denier, the breaking strength is 2571.9 c N,the elongation rate is 1.61%, the wear resistance is 41.33 times, the modulus is 52.83 GPa.(3)Because of The smooth surface is not easy for sizing, low-temperature plasma treatment technology is used for surface treatment on filament basalt, to enhanced slurry and adhesion between the basalt filaments and Sizing agent. The effect of the experiment discharge power, discharge pressure, force, friction factor the discharge time on the Strength and the friction factor of the basalt filaments is analysised. The results showed that: the higher the discharge power, the lower the discharge pressure, the longer the discharge time can get the more intense extent treated of basalt filaments.At the same time by orthogonal experiment to determined optimize the process parameters for the discharge power 300 W, discharge pressure 20 Pa, discharge time of 7 min. Use scanning electron to observe the surface morphology of the basalt filament. The results showed that it have a significant effect on the treatment of the basalt filament surface as the surface roughness increases; it shows that the adhesion properties of the slurry and basalt filaments increase by sizing rate test results.(4)PR-Su modified starch, polyacrylate, PVA-1799, grease are selected as sizing agent, through the test of size film performance and combine with the properties of basalt filaments, the suitable sizing formula for basalt filaments is identified. Namely, PR-Su modified is starch 37.5 Kg, PVA-1799 is 12.5 K g, polyacrylate is 10 Kg, grease is 2 Kg.(5)The different amounts of solid containing and coating have directly impact on the effect of basalt filaments filament sizing. With different solids 3%, 5%, 8% slurry sizing on the treated basalt filament.The performance of strength, wear resistance, and cluster are analysised. The results show that when the solid content of the slurry containing 5%, the strength, abrasion resistance of the sizing filament has greatly improved.
