Nowadays, with the frequent communication among nations, cross-culturalcommunication plays a significant role in people’s lives. However, cultural diversity becamethe basic factor which affects whether cross-cultural communication is successful or not. Thecultural diversity in food culture between Russia and China influences their cross-culturalcommunication, especially food diversity, custom diversity, vocabulary culture accompaniedby different meanings and communicative behavior diversity etc. Above all, the study onChinese and Russian communicative behaviors during meals is far more important. The studyon the difference between Chinese and Russian cross-cultural communication can be carriedout from two aspects. One is verbal communication, and the other is non-verbalcommunication. The different behaviors not only reflect the apparent differences in these twocountries’ food culture on the whole, but also deeply show the national characters and mindsbetween the two countries. From the basic research to the deep culture, not only makeChinese and Russian communicators learn the other’s cultural background easily, but alsopromise the Chinese and Russian cross-cultural communication carried on smoothly.This paper will be based on the cross-cultural communicative theories and compareverbal with non-verbal communicative behaviors when they have meals to study the apparentdifference on food culture. Furthermore, do the research on what leads to the differences andput forward the effective communicative strategies, in order that the Chinese and Russiancross-cultural communication can be carried on smoothly.The paper consists of six parts:Chapter One is the introduction which presents the background, the content and methods,the purpose and meaning of the research.Chapter Two is the brief review about the food culture between Russia and China.Chapter Three is the brief introduction of cross-cultural communication, such as therelationship among languages, communication and culture, defining the cross-culturalcommunication, briefly defining the features, models and types of cross-culturalcommunication. Some relevant terms in the paper are also included.Chapter Four is the comparison between the verbal and non-verbal communicationduring Chinese and Russian meals. In the part of verbal communication, the paper sets up therelevant verbal models of cross-cultural communication and analyzes the verbalcommunicative behaviors during the Chinese and Russian meals. As for the non-verbalcommunication, the paper will classify the non-verbal communication according to its features and make a comparison and analysis about the non-verbal communicative behaviorsduring the Chinese and Russian meals.Chapter Five is analyzing the Chinese and Russian food culture deeply. The paper willstudy the differences in national minds and characters and the influence on the cross-culturalcommunication.Chapter Six is the conclusion. The author draws the conclusion and puts forward thecommunicative strategies.
