In recent years, with the rising and developing of the Digital City or Smart City projects, it is an important way to simulate and understand our real world by three-dimensional (3D) modeling in larger geographical space. With the different modeling methods and efficiency, the 3D modeling showcases its charm to all of us. How to implement the mass 3D modeling task with certain accuracy as become a basic requirement for the digital city construction. This paper discusses the basic situation of the 3D modeling in digital city, and introduces the principle and characteristics of 2 fast and batch modeling software: SketchUp and CityEngine, then analyzes their advantage selected as the digital city 3D modeling platform. Taking a block in Qujing City Vocational Education area as an experimental sample, something with independent characteristics were rapidly modeled by SketchUp manually; and for those that have the same or similar structure of the clusters were batch modeled by writing CityEngine CGA rules, so as to avoid a large number of repetitive manual labor; when completed, the models created by SketchUp called static models, were imported into the 3D scene that created by CityEngine, and eventually realizes the 3D scene that conforms to the actual situation in the experimentation area. This 3D modeling method is simple and efficient, and can be widely used in city planning, architecture, landscape, the emergency relief, games and virtual reality 3D modeling fields.
