The Fusion Of The Scientific Spirit And Humanistic Spirit View From The Angle Of Traditional Culture

Science and technology is the first productive force. It played a huge role in the processof social progress and development. However, there are some deviations in the process of itsdevelopment and application of science and technology, causing huge negative impact onhuman society development. At present, the three challenges science facing include: theworsening of human survival environment, the difficulties in hi-technology assessment, andthe unbalance between science and humanity development. All those problems will to a greathave an extent effect on the development direction of future science and its characteristics.Snow, British scholar said in his book "The Two Cultures", that academic culture in the20thcentury has become the "scientific" and "humanistic" two barriers guarded world. This splitmeans some kind of absence to the whole society. As to make people lack correct judgment tomodern society. Snow once pointed out that humanity scholars and science scholars have twoentirely different attitudes in cognitive science, there were "gap" do not understand each other,even "hostility and aversion ". Due to the expanding scientific culture, the guidance ofhumanistic spirit gradually lost, which deviated from the original intention of people to usescience and technology, which in turn caused the dual crisis for human beings and the world.In fact, our world can be divided into two dimensions: one is world of facts suitable forscientific and rational; the other is world of value reflect the humanities concern. The lack ofrational will leads people to superstition and madness, while loss of humanities leads peopleto apathy and emptiness. Rational and humanity, is "heavy" and "light" mentioned by MilanKundera, and is “Applo” and "Dionysus" by Nietzsche. In order to communicate science andthe humanities, alleviate and eliminate the tensions and contradictions between them, first ofall we should make clear the differences and relations between science and humanity. In thisway we can search for the possibility of their fusion based on the understanding theopposition and split of science and humanity.This paper mainly discusses scientific spirit and humanistic spirit and the relationshipbetween them from the perspective of traditional culture in our country, at the same time putforward that under the background of today, how to learn from the wisdom of traditionalChinese culture to fusion scientific spirit and humanistic spirit. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is mainly to the definition of concerned concepts. It discusses thebasic connotation of scientific spirit and humanistic spirit, and distinguishes scientific spiritand humanistic spirit. It discusses thoroughly the relationship between scientific spirit andhumanistic spirit, make it clear that the relationship they have is difference from each otherwhile unified complementary, establishing the theoretical basis for fusion. The second chaptermainly discusses the scientific spirit and humanistic spirit among Chinese traditional culture.First it discussed whether there are scientific spirit and humanistic spirit in the traditionalculture or not. Respectively and then analyzed the characteristics of the two spirits. The thirdchapter combed the fusion of both China and the western scientific spirit and humanistic spiritis the historical evolution of the process. Through the analysis, we can found that if thecombination of scientific spirit and humanistic spirit, the society will develop steadily andorderly; If the separation of scientific spirit and humanistic spirit or one lacks, the society willbe stagnant, conflicts intensified, the human spirit develop deformity. The fourth chapterbased on the previous part of the paper, analyzes the traditional scientific spirit andhumanistic spirit in contemporary significance. And arrives at this conclusion: to solve aseries of human survival crisis, we must promote the connection and fusion of scientificculture and humanistic culture. Finally combining theory with practice, attempt to find theway to dissolve cultural crisis from some beneficial factors of Chinese traditional culture. Weshould derive the wisdom of Chinese traditional culture, to inherit and carry forward thetraditional culture, and meanwhile better fusion scientific spirit and humanistic spirit.
