| The scientific spirit and humanistic spirit are two important spiritual factors in practical activities and social development. This thesis aims at exploring the modern significance of mergence between scientific spirit and humanistic spirit. Firstly, this thesis delimits the fundamental connotation of two spirits and expounds the dialectic relationship between them, which creates the theoretical basis of mergence between scientific spirit and humanistic spirit. Secondly, reviewing systematically the mergence of two spirits in western and domestic history and the following influences to social and human development are analyzed as well. In this way, this thesis points out these spirits are indispensable spiritual factors in the sound development of human society. The isolation or shortage of them will result in the stagnancy or retrogress of social development, as well as the abnormal development of human spirit. Then this thesis emphasizes that the mergence between scientific spirit and humanistic spirit are of great significance in constructing a harmonious society and modernizing human beings.
