A Research Of Spatial Structure Optimization Of Xi’an Metropolitan Area

The boom of the metropolitan areas is the senior form of regional development. It leads to a bigger, wider and higher cooperation and competition for the cities in Xi’an metropolitan area. According to the theory of urban development, whether from the perspective of space or functional integration, city follows a path, that is, the single city-combined city-urban agglomerations-large metropolitan area. To the reality of Shannxi province, with the development of city-groups in Guanzhong Plain, the region presents a multi-center network trendency. But, with the process of development, some problems such as convergent industrial structure, loose urban hierarchy and discontinuous urban hierarchy appeared. So, on the basis of analysis the spatial structure of Xi’an metropolitan area, we put forward the optimization strategy to promote the sustainable development of economy in Xi’an metropolitan area district.Based on the spatial economics theory, this thesis combines standard research with empirical analysis, qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis. Firstly, we use the improved gravity model and field intensity model to define the spatial scope of Xi’an metropolitan area. Secondly, we comprehensive use some tools, such as fractal theory, Ucinet, Geoda, ArcGIS, Eviews, Stata, to analysis the spatial structure from the aspects of population, economy, urbanization and the relations between the cities, and deems "monocentiric polarization structure, loose urban hierarchy and weak relationship between cities" as the charateristics of spatial structure of Xi’an metropolitan area. And we further expound the industry, traffic and policy influencing factors caused by the charateristics of spatial structure. Finally, combining the traditional regional development axis with the Network cities system, we put forward the "axis+multi-center" strategy to optimize Xi’an metropolitan area, and put forward specifical optimization measures from industry, traffic and system construction.This thesis is mainly composed of six charpters.
