China is the world’s largest apparel exporter, but not export powerhouse. At thesame time of industrial scale and market share growth, while the added value ofproduct is more and more low, and international competitiveness show a downwardtrend. This is related to domestic production costs rising, RMB appreciation andincreased competition from developing countries in recent years. More importantly,our inferior position in the global garment value chain, lack of own-brand and corecompetencies make extensive trade growth way problems have become increasinglyprominent.In the global context of high and new technology and traditional industriesgrowing integration, and garment industry from labor-intensive to innovation,creativity-intensive transformed, research on garment export trade way upgrading hasa great significance on changing clothing export growth way.This paper make Zhejiang Garment export trade as research objects,summarizing the existing trade way studies, then discuss garment export trade wayupgrading based on trade theory, the core competence theory and new growth theory.Firstly, analyze the characteristics of garment export trade, and core competenceinfluence the mechanism of trade way upgrading, and then investigate Zhejianggarment export trade volume and structure, put forward the research hypothesis,Secondly, making empirical analysis for the core competencies and businessperformance differences under different enterprise characteristics and trade way, usingregression analysis to verify the relations between core competencies, trade wayupgrading and corporate performance. Further, Wensli Group as a typical case,interpret it promote the trade way upgrading by integrating strengthening its corecompetencies. The main research conclusions are as follows:1.Under different enterprise characteristics and trade way, core competencies andperformance showed significant differences. Enterprise of different founded age,number of employees, registered capital and trade way has significant difference inaccess capacity, design capability, branding capacity and financial performance andmarket performance, but there is no significant difference in processing capability,manufacturing capacity and organizational performance; 2.Enterprise’s core competence promote the garment exports trade wayupgrading significantly. The processing capability, manufacturing capacity and accesscapacity has positive significant effect on OEM trade way; manufacturing capacity,access capacity and design capacity has a significant positive impact on ODM tradeway; manufacturing capacity, access capacity, design capacity and brand capacity hasa significant positive impact on OBM trade way;3. Different trade way has a positive impact on the firm performance. OEMtrade way has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance andorganizational performance, ODM trade has a positive and significant impact on thefinancial performance, market performance and organizational performance; OBMtrade way has a positive and significant impact on the market performance andorganizational performance;4.Strengthening and integrating the company’s core capabilities can acceleratethe upgrading of garment export trade way. Strengthen the manufacturing ability ofOEM stage to improve product quality, timely integrating enterprise’s R&D designand brand marketing capabilities to accelerate garment export enterprises to ODM orOBM upgrading.
