Tea is one of the most important crops in the world. It is consumed as a beverage throughout the world and grown widely in countries of Asia, Africa and the Near East. It has widespread implications for the earnings and food security of farm communities. China has long history of tea planting and manufacturing. The tea production and tea export of China has keeping good growing trend among five top tea producing and exporting countries. This is because China has some comparative advantages such as the special advantage of natural materials and the advantage of prolific and cheap labors. The export of China's green tea has established its leading place in international market, and fine-processing tea products have been further researched and promoted, our tea export has huge potential in development although there are some challenges from international market. It analyses the actuality and effective factors of China's core competence in tea industry based on Core Competence Theory, Michael Porter Diamond Theory and International Trade Theory. It also brings forward some countermeasures on how to improve our core competence in international tea market. The thesis includes several contents as follows:The first part is about the development of world tea industry. The world tea export shares 41.85 % of total production in 2006, the supply exceeds demand in international tea industry as the extend of tea planting and constantly increasing of tea production. The tea production from China, India, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Indonesia shares 78 % of total production in 2006, and the tea import by England, Russia & CSI, Egypt, USA and Pakistan shares 41 % of total import, and 75 % of the import tea is black tea.The second part is about the development of China's tea industry and export analysis. It analyses the history and actuality of China's tea export from four aspects by comparative analysis method : the change in quantities of export tea; the change in export places and destinations ; the change in kinds of export tea; the change in prices. The production and quality of tea from other tea planting countries have developed in recent years, the export of Chinese tea reduced and the average price fell down in international market. But both of the export and value of export in 2006 and 2007 have reached an all-time high, which have given a bright light to China's tea export trade. The third part is about the analysis of Chinese tea's competitors. The thesis analyses mainly on black tea, green tea and special tea with recapitulation and summarization of competitors'competitive advantages and export actuality. The forth part is about the analysis of factors which affect the core competence of China's tea industry. This part analyses the core competence of China's tea industry in international market by comparison among China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, India and Indonesia from three aspects :Revealed Comparative Advantage Index, Possession Rate of International Market Index and Comparison of Price in International Market. The fifth part is about the methods of how to enhance Chinese tea's core competence in international market., which includes several methods as follows: firstly, build up correct ideologies of tea industry development and international trade ; secondly, explore new products based on science research such as different tea products for different consumption groups, new tea products and optimization of export tea; thirdly, pay attention to the quality and safety of tea products; forthly, the stratagems and structure of tea enterprises and competence among the same field.
