The project management capability of consulting enterprises has also become important criteria for the selection by the enterprises.Jointly developed by the U.S. Department of Defense and Carnegie Mellon University and the U.S. Defense Industry Association, CMMI is a system standard for the management of software and systems integration companies, and it is also an authoritative standard to measure project management skills in recent years. With the continuous improvement of the industry capacity and standardization of the market, the domestic well-known consulting firms gradually formalize, use project management knowledge to the management of their own businesses, and develop workflow, improve the level of project management standardization according to the CMMI model to standardize.As one of the top ten consulting firms in the country, AB has a certain level of project management capabilities under the requirement of the enterprise development and market competition; however, AB has some problems on project management currently, such as schedule variance, low effect of cost management, uncontrolled project quality and vacancy of knowledge accumulation, which cannot fully achieve CMMI level2on the requirement of CMMI maturity rating. Therefore, the project management process improvement is a must.This essay introduces CMMI model and the basic knowledge of project management. Through the method of combining the basic theory of the CMMI model and project management knowledge, and regarding CMMI maturity level assessment requirements as the leading, from the point of process area, the status on project management of AB and AB similar consulting companies is analyzed, and also is for the project management activities for AB company’s consulting projects, and some current problems are found, including lack of risk management, unqualified configuration management. As for these problems, compared with the process area achievement situation of level CMMI2and CMMI3, improvements are carried out, including establishing an advance mechanism and a third-party supervising department, refining project planning, overall project monitoring and control, establishing configuration management system and accumulating knowledge, which reduce the project cost, improve the project quality and customer satisfaction. Its capability achieves CMMI maturity level2, and go forward to the CMMI maturity level3. |
