| Industrial agglomeration is a group with competitive advantage in a specific areawhere there are a large number of enterprises in some industry with close relation andsome related supporting institutions gathering in space through selecting one leadingindustry as core and relying on stable division and cooperation. Industrialagglomeration is a unique but extensive phenomenon during contemporary economicdevelopment, especially, the phenomenon is more obvious in developed countries.Whether it is the agglomeration of high-tech enterprises or traditional industry, they allhave achieved great success, such as Silicon Valley in the United States,Motor City inDetroit. In China, the policy of reform and opening-up provides a relaxed environmentfor the breeding and growth of the industrial agglomeration, and a number ofspecialized industrial clusters rise quickly, such as the electronics industry inZhongguancun Beijing, the garment industry in Dongguan and the small commodityindustry in Yiwu. The agglomeration effect of these industries continues to enhance theeconomic competitiveness of the region. Industrial agglomeration has become a mainway to gain a competitive advantage for a country or region.Chongqing as China’s important industrial base, its manufacturing, especiallymachinery, military, instrumentation and automobile, motorcycle industry have certainreputation and influence in the country and the world. In the view of the industrystructure, the proportion of the Chongqing’s manufacturing added value in the city’stotal industrial added value was over80%,and Chongqing has been entered the era ofmiddle and late industrialization. However, due to the characteristics of Chongqingitself as big city rural, the level of urbanization is still to be improved, which need tocontinue to promote industrialization, and manufacturing agglomeration is one of theeffective means of promoting the industrialization. In recent years,Chongqing, firmlygrasps the favorable opportunity of the transfer of industries from the east China, relying on its original manufacturing advantages, and actively builds manufacturingindustry cluster through government support, enterprise innovation, marketcultivation, its manufacturing agglomeration scale increases year by year, andagglomeration effects begin to be felt. The manufacturing industry agglomeration hasbecome an effective way to enhance the economic competitiveness of Chongqing. This thesis chooses the characteristics of Chongqing’s manufacturingagglomeration as a starting point, firstly, theoretically demonstrating the effect of innovation, specialization, knowledge spillovers, competition and cooperation broughtby industrial agglomeration,on the base of which the industrial agglomeration positiveand negative effects on regional economic competitiveness are analyzed, and theconceptual model of the impact of industrial agglomeration on regional economiccompetitiveness is presented, then, the realities of Chongqing manufacturing industryagglomeration and the competitiveness of regional economic are portrayed accuratelyin methods of statistical description through collecting and sorting Chongqingmanufacturing and Chongqing macroeconomic data respectively from2003to2011.Thirdly,the evaluation index system of the Chongqing manufacturing agglomerationand regional economic competitiveness are determined by establishing the elasticmodel, and empirical analysis is made around the effect of the Chongqingmanufacturing agglomeration on Chongqing regional economic competitiveness bycatastrophe progression method. Finally relevant conclusions are drawn and policyrecommendations are given in order to improve the level of manufacturingagglomeration in Chongqing and further promote regional economic competitiveness. |
