Research On Community Participation In Pro-Poor Tourism

As the largest developing country in the world, the problems of poverty has been being the bottleneck in the balanced development of china. Pro-poor tourism, as a form of Development-oriented poverty alleviation, has been a significant strategic plan of the government work at all levels. Pro-poor tourism is not simply equal to the development of tourism in poor area, for which core goal is to reduce poverty population and to be sustainable development. Successful practice of PPT projects in some rural areas show that community participation is an effective means to make the goal become truth.Tangshan County where Xiquan village located is listed as one of poverty alleviation areas of Mubu Mountain Zone. With Xiquan Village as research object, The thesis uses social exchange theory, stakeholder theory and sustainable development theory as a research foundation and community participation mechanism as a breakthrough point. The thesis analyzes the identities of both positive and negative impact of Pro-poor tourism development that has brought to the local resident and evaluates the stage of community involved in it by using the methods of questionnaire, interview and mathematical statistics. Furthermore, the thesis points out the present shortcomings and corresponding measures are suggested. This thesis includes three main parts:The first part mainly reviews the achievements related to the research of community participation in PPT, introduces the background, topic significance and research methods. The author tries to analyze the theoretical basis and summarizes the mechanism of community participation in PPT. The second part, taking the example of Xiquan village where the AAAA scenic spot Yinshui Cave area located in Hubei province, introduces the background of and the development of tourism in village community. With the typical case analysis, the author design a questionnaire from two aspects of community tourism development and Pro-poor tourism effects. On the basis of interviews and questionnaire survey, using SPSS statistical software, this part evaluates Xiquan village community participation in tourism development status, at the same time, the residents’ perception and attitude to Pro-poor tourism are analyzed. Finally, several problems of community participation in Pro-poor tourism research are concluded and corresponding measures are suggested, which can also provide experience and references for other poor areas which has similar situation to Xiquan village.The third part, on the basis of studying the former two parts, proposed research conclusion, limitation and further research direction.
