Along with the acceleration of the economic globalization and the fast development of science, knowledge spillover of cluster enterprises is the practical problems to be faced. Many scholars (such as Jaffe (1989), Grabher (1993), Audretsch (1996), etc.,) have fully confirmed that knowledge spillover promoted socioeconomic development and industry upgrading. Leonard-Barton (1995) argued that it’s impossible for any single enterprise to hold all the knowledge which is needed for completing innovation tasks, most firms have to acquire knowledge from others. This proves the transmission of knowledge between enterprises is quite important for industry innovation and transformation. However the perspective from knowledge producers, this distribution is an unconscious and involuntary process, it might cut down originating firms’innovation income. So in practice, few firms are about to share their knowledge with competitors. Facing with this contradiction between theory and reality, this study constructs a model of external knowledge innovation and innovation performance, and then analyzes how recipient firms’ learning activities affect originating firms’innovation income. The research introduces knowledge acquisition as the moderator variable, suggests that originating firms could expand this benefit by initiative knowledge acquisition. Our study could help to better understand the knowledge spillover among enterprises. This dissertation selects cluster enterprises of Dalian Software Park as the study sample, concerns with the mechanism of action among external knowledge innovation, innovation performance and knowledge acquisition. This paper includes six parts. The first chapter includes innovations of this paper, the meaning, background, researching method. The second part sketches out related literatures to carry on reviews and combs, then shortly describes achievements and the research situation, and constitutes the theory basis of this article. On account of the literature review, part three puts forward the concept model and assumptions. It introduces the definition of each variable and the correlations among external knowledge innovation, innovation performance and knowledge acquisition. The fourth part determines the metric of each variable and the designing of the questionnaire then shows data collection processing. The fifth part is the empirical analysis, including reliability test and validity test, the process of data statistics and modal fitting test. The sixth part is finality of this article, including conclusions, proposals for management practice, localizations and further work needed for this article.Through the above discussion, the next conclusions are researched.(1) Knowledge spillover has an impact on the originating firms’ performance, which because external knowledge innovation benefits originating firms’ innovation performance. Through the above analysis, we find innovation performance, product innovation performance and process innovation performance are positively and significantly correlated with the external knowledge innovation, correlation coefficients are0.633,0.621and0.542respectively, regression coefficients are0.444,0.488and0.388in very significant difference, which fully confirms external knowledge innovation benefits originating firms’ innovation performance.(2) Originating firms could expand this benefit by initiative knowledge acquisition. Through correlation analysis, we find knowledge acquisition is correlated with innovation performance positively and significantly, product innovation performance and process innovation performance, correlation coefficients are0.454,0.460and0.369. The regression coefficients of innovation performance, product innovation performance and the interaction term of external knowledge innovation and knowledge acquisition are0.158and0.200in very significant difference, which shows knowledge acquisition has the effect of intensifying the relationship between external knowledge innovation and innovation performance, product innovation performance. We have the result not exactly as we wanted at the regression analysis of process innovation performance, but this paper partly verifies originating firms’ initiative knowledge acquisition could adjust the relationship between external knowledge innovation and innovation performance. This paper obtains some achievements in analyzing the phenomenon of knowledge spillover from originating firms’ perspective, and has a strong role of guiding practice. But limited by research resources and my personal ability, this study still has some defects, further study is needed.
