Research On The Influence Of Tourism On Employment In Yunnan Province

Tourism is a sun-rising industry with higher connectivity and higher integration in today’s world economy. The development of tourism can drive the development of the transportation industry, restaurant industry, hotel industry, entertainment industry and so on. Tourism has become the pillar industry of Yunnan province after20years of development and it has produced a positive effect on economic growth as well as the culture. Yunnan province is facing a huge task of promoting the upgrade of industry structure and expanding employment. Consequently, it is significant for studying whether tourism can promote employment. What is the gradient of impact on employment exposed by tourism? How to expand employment by developing tourism?What are the effective policies of tourism to enhance employment? These are critical research topics.The paper adopts the way of combining theory with practice.Firstly, The paper combed the existing related theory and collected data to analyze some employment problems in Yunnan province and from which we find that the supply of labor has greatly exceeded that of jobs and employment structures is not reasonable. In fact, there a surplus of workers in primary and secondary industries and a shortage of labor in the third industry. Consequently, the best way to expand employment is readjusting the employment structure and the key point is to expand employment in tertiary industry. On the other hand, tourism occupies an important place in the third industry so the expansionary effect on employment generated by tourism is analyzed theoretically. Secondly, on the basis of the data from2002to2011from Yunnan Statistical Yearbook and Yearbook of China Tourism statistics, the paper completes the empirical study of the effect on Yunnan provinces’s tourism employment of numerous indicators, flexible indicators and multiplication indicators. According to research, tourism can do much to absorb the surplus labor.Then econometrics models are used to analyze tourism employment and comprehensive conclusion is obtained. Thirdly, the paper predicts the potentiality of tourism employment in Yunnan province with structural deviation, according to the results, the paper estimate future employment growth in tourism and it thinks the number employed in tourism will rise by129thousand by2016.Finally, according to the data from the questionnaire, the paper analyses some correlate factors of employed workers in tourism, such as age, final educations, working years and so on.Then the paper makes a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of tourism employment.Based on above-mentioned analysis, the paper holds the idea that tourism can play an important role in absorbing the surplus labor.On the same time, many restricting factors exist in tourism employment.As a result, aiming at the shortages of tourism employment, the paper gives some policy and suggestion from5perspectives need to be noticed in the development on tourism employment in the future.To be specific, they include accelerating the development of tourism, improving the framework of laws and rules on tourism, propelling the enterprise’s innovation, improving the employees’ knowledge, developing outbound truism.
