Study On The Problem Of The Citizens’ Participating In Cily Governance From The Aspect Of Governance Theory

Urban governance is no longer an unfamiliar word for modern society. Resentyears, urban governance is kept being reminded by masses of issues such as urbanenvironmental pollution and urban traffic congestion. Meanwhile, citizen participationis getting more and more important in urban governance. Here it apply governancetheory in urban governance and study the present situation in Jiaozuo City as well asthe countermeasures to the arisen problems, hoping to contribute a little to solving theurban governance problems in Jiaozuo City.This essay contains five parts. Structures as below:The first part is instruction, including the research significance, domestic andoverseas literature reviews, the unique feature and innovation point and researchmethod in this essay.The second part is definitions of concepts and reviews of theories. Mainly definethe concepts of urban governance and citizen participation and explain theconnotation of Gerry Stoker’s governance theory.The third part is the explanation of the arisen issues. Study on the basicinformation and the issues that appears in citizens’ participating in urban governancein Jiaozuo City shows the main problems are the weak awareness of citizens toparticipate in urban governance, lack of universality, and effectiveness, lack of depthand organized participation without effective management and direction.The fourth part is the causes of the issues, including the simplex subject ingovernance, the defective environment for citizen participation in urban governance,lack of necessary interactions among governance subjects, unformed necessaryindependent and autonomous networks of governance and incomplete techniques andmethods of governance.The fifth part is specific strategies of citizen participation in urban governance.
