The climate change and global warming is the concerned hot problems by current human society.The burning of fossil fuels is the main reason which caused the greenhouse gas emissions. But there is nodenying that use and change of land is also an important reason of global climate change, which is as thecarrier of human activities. Some related research shows that, the greenhouse gas emissions caused by landuse behavior is about a third of the total artificial greenhouse gas emissions, which is includingdeforestation, grassland grazing, wetland utilization and agricultural production, it’s the second largestsource of greenhouse gas emissions apart from the combustion of fossil fuel. In this background, is veryimportant to reduce carbon emissions in the process of land use through the research of land use changeand the new land utilization type.Henan province is a big agricultural province with a large population, which is in the rapiddevelopment of urbanization and industrialization. With the development of economy and the rapidincrease of land used for construction purposes, there will inevitably cause reduction of agricultural landarea and the increase of carbon emissions. This paper takes the core city Zhengzhou and Luoyang in centralplain economic zone as the study area, combining the land use change and carbon emissions research, toanalyze the land use change between Zhengzhou and Luoyang during the period of2000-2009with remotesensing and GIS as technology means; and with the land use data through remote sensing interpretation andthe energy consumption data in statistical yearbook to calculate the change of carbon emissions betweenZhengzhou and Luoyang during the period of2000-2009. Research results indicate that:(1) the land use status of Zhengzhou and Luoyang has changed dramatically in2000-2009, therapid outspread of construction land and continuous decrease in agricultural land area is the maincharacteristics of land use change. The main characteristic of Land use changes in Zhengzhou isconstruction land expansion in total. Its construction land area totaling increase67410hm~2in the period of2000-2009. The rate of urbanization in Luoyang is also very fast, but another significant feature of the landuse change in Luoyang is the continuous decrease in forestland area. In total, the forestland areas inLuoyang reduce17552hm~2in the period of2000-2009. (2) With the acceleration of urbanization and the change of land use structure, the carbonemissions are increasing rapidly in the process of land use in Zhengzhou and Luoyang. In the period of2000-2009, the total carbon emissions in Zhengzhou increase from3621071tons to22490783tons;because the proportion of forest land area is bigger in Luoyang, the total carbon absorption is greater thanthe total carbon emissions, which make the net carbon emissions always be negative, but as a result of thereduce of forest land area and the increase of construction land area, the net carbon emissions in Luoyanghave increased from28481150tons in2000to9084890tons in2009.(3) The reasonable measures of land use and management can effectively reduce carbonemissions in the process of land use. In order to control the increase of carbon emissions In the process ofland use, it must from the carbon source and carbon sink two aspects. The main measures include adjustingenergy structure, improving energy efficiency, strengthening the management of the forest and returningfarmland to forest, Improving the management level of farmland, realizing the ordered expansion ofconstruction land with Intensive and reasonable use.
