Service-manufacturing is a new paradigm for the synchronization development ofmanufacturing and service. China’s manufacturing industry is in transition from productionmanufacturing to service-manufacturing. It is previous different from tangible products whichis only focused on the production manufacturing. Service-manufacturing is expansion andextension the enterprises through the manufacturing toward the service sector, to carry out themanufacturing-based service and service-oriented manufacturing. It is to meet the customer’spersonality and a full range of needs, available to customers the comprehensive solution of"turnkey projects" and "package", so that customers get the most value-added as a starting point,to integrate the manufacturing business with its front-end service business, take the line of"products service" or "service products”. In these two kinds of transformation route, the wholebusiness process which can cover all the product life cycle can be made of a manufacturingenterprise alone or the cooperation between manufacturing enterprises and productive serviceenterprise, no matter to choose which path. In this paper, no matter choose which kindtransition paths and organization form to develop service-manufacturing, the key to success isthe expansion which is related to service business areas and the whole business processimprovement design and optimization. However, for a long time, people have taken a lot ofresearch on tangible products manufacturing business processes which can consist ofproduction process design and selection, facility location and layout, production and logisticsoperation, and relatively little research on service-manufacturing business processes or serviceoperations processes and their optimization. So far, the service operation processes relevantresearch work is mainly concentrated in the service process improvement, and based on theservice process optimization of customer value, organizational structure recycling, publicservice system optimization, research on service-manufacturing business process improvementis still very rare, especially the service-manufacturing enterprise business process design andimprovement with the expectations of the competitive advantage.This article is intended for the transformation of manufacturing enterprises and carriedout service-manufacturing, the main research contents have the following several aspects: firstly, state the service-manufacturing concept and characteristics, and basic theory of businessprocess design and improvement. Secondly, state the theory of service-manufacturingenterprise business process design, put forward the procedures of service-manufacturing’sbusiness process design and discuss the process design methods to explore the integration ofproduction and services. Thirdly, we discuss the ideas and procedures ofservice-manufacturing’s business process improvement with the expectations of the competitiveadvantage on the basis of describing characteristics and basic components ofservice-manufacturing, and we propose logical and mathematical model ofservice-manufacturing’s business process improvement with the expectations of the competitiveadvantage based on Lean Six Sigma and Quality Function Deployment integration. Finally, bya case study, we describe the concrete application of the model in order to provide an effectivemeans and methods for transition of manufacturing industry from production manufacturing toservice-manufacturing and service-manufacturing’s business process improvement.
