| Team and team-building are hot research topic in the field of management recent years. The flexible organization breaks the linear and functional systems’operation and makes the communication among team members more quickly. So team is widely used in modern business circles as an effective form of organization and the public sector are competing to introduce it. The mainstream of team-building research promotes the team’s overall performance from system construction and cultural construction, ignoring the impact of different network of social relation.Team performance refers to the wisdom and ability of a whole team, which is closely related to the network of team’s social relation. It doesn’t mean that the whole performance equals the sum of each individual member’s performance in the team. In a team having a good social network, the team performance is greater than the sum of all individuals’performance in the team. This article researches team-building based on social network analysis (SNA), studying the relationship and the relationship’s network structure in a team in order to improve the adverse impact of them on team development.The article defines the study point of emphasis first, combing the course of development of SNA in the field of team-building, then discusses the problems of SNA applied in the field of team-building, and considers SNA as a tool to understand and solve these problems.With elaborating on the basic principle of SNA, the article discusses the SNA’s specific application in team-building, and selects a case to do an empirical analysis to confirm that. Taking the team in X organization in Shanghai for example, this article designs research program, collects data, analyzes these data with UCINET, and explains the result. Finally the article discusses the practicality that SNA apply in public departments’ team-building as university. The author hopes this study can initiate and promote a general utility in team-building field. |
