The expression of "Chinese-style" first came from Zhu De’s proposal of "developing Chinese-style socialism". It was afterwards substituted by "Chinese characteristics" and gradually faded out from social discourse. Wang Hailing’s novel Chinese-style Divorce and the teleplay adapted from it have brought the expression back into the public view. Hereafter,"Chinese-style" which is a neutral political discourse in the first place becomes a word that is teasing, ironic or critical, and many unhealthy or abnormal phenomena in the contemporary Chinese society have been labeled with "Chinese-style". The emergence of "crossing the roads in the Chinese style" is a significant sign of the derivation of "Chinese-style XX" on its way to the climax. The creation of the netizens makes the corrupt social customs symbols, and the media coverage gradually forms them into discourse texts. This research studies the texts of the Chinese media reports on "crossing the roads in the Chinese style", clarifying from the formation and the change to the wide spread of this communicating symbol, summarizing the discourse features and structures presented in the use of this symbol from different media, and revealing the complicated relationship behind the symbol through unscrambling the symbol "crossing roads in the Chinese style". Moreover, this research also pays attention to the expressive characteristics of academic discourse on this social phenomenon, observing the differences between academic discourse and media discourse, and exploring the reasons why the academic discourse conducts the discourse expression with the help of symbols. Adopting the method of text analysis, this research studies the features of texts of media reports, articles of scholars and academic papers, finding that in the communicating process of "crossing the roads in the Chinese style", different discourse subjects lack independent thinking, merely conducting the discourse expression with the help of symbol that is like a label, giving their opinions in certain frameworks, and lacking real dialogues among different subjects. The original signifer’s meaning of communicating symbols has been reduced because of the dispute of public opinon’s field, and the spread of public opinons’ exchange or the spread of symbol also gradually stops. As far as I am concerned, the abrupt stop of the spread of the communicating symbol "crossing the roads in the Chinese style" is exactly the best metaphor and symbol of the "Chinese-style problem".
