In recent years, the wireless communication technology is developing rapidly.Thesetechnologies bring great convenience to our lives but also caused the increasingly complexelectromagnetic environment of space and the increasing scarcity of spectrum resources.Inorder to effectively manage the limited spectrum resources and rational develope andutilize the limited spectrum resources,we must monitor the radio spectrum.Effective spectrum monitoring and management is inseparable from advanced andreliable equipment. Currently, our country’s radio monitoring equipment is imported fromforeign countries. These monitoring devices with high accuracy, full-featured, and withnetwork connecting function are expensive. But for a user who has a general monitoringrequirement,it is not practical.and economical. Therefore, the development of low-costportable spectrum monitoring receiver is of great significance. This paper describes the structure of the three common radio spectrum monitoringreceiver. It is superheterodyne receiver,direct-conversion receiver and digital-IF receiver. And then,it elaborates the major technical indicators of a receiver. Since superheterodynereceiver has some outstanding advantages,it has become the most widely used receiverarchitecture. This design choose the superheterodyne receiver architecture to build aplatform for rapid scanning monitor of the51MHz~858MHz radio signals. And thereceiver is made up of RF front module, the diode detector, A/D module, amplifiercircuit, the control unit and the display part. Finally, the test data of the radio spectrum monitoring receiver are analyzed, the results show that the receiver has the basic monitoring functions of the51MHz~858MHzradio signals.
