Due to the dimensional uniqueness of the meteorological service, geographical information system has been widely used in the meteorological service which is also related to almost every aspects of it. With the development of the meteorological service in its elaboration, the demands on the application of the geographical information system have been growing both in depth and width in the following two aspects:internal business systems and the presentation of the internet information. Therefore, the application of the geographical information system in the field of meteorology will be discussed in this paper based on the construction of the internal platform. This paper is generally on the basis of the construction of the platform of meteorological geographical information service of Inner Mongolia, which is opened for the internet users and also for the professionals. The platform presents factors of the geographical and meteorological information of the whole province. Additionally, the interaction of the operator on the platform has been realized and in the meantime, it can be used as a supplementary information source for the professionals.The overall design of the platform has adopted the three-tier structure which is widely used in the recent years. Three-tier structure includes data layer, business layer and presentation layer. The design on the release of the basic geographical information and the rendering of the data in the client side is more elaborate. In the aspects of the release of service, the basic geographical information has been classified and released uniformly through TMS protocol. What is more, with the help of the designing concept of MBTiles and the polling mechanism of the server, the delay in the release of the information has been achieved in the implemented situation of concurrent requests. As for the presentation of the meteorological data in the geospace, both the vector and bitmap has been used and also the UTFGrid, adaptive clustering tags and meteorological smart tags has been applied. In this way, the demands on the presentation of the data and interaction of the information can be satisfied. Being a platform which has been put into production, the system can meet the demands of retrieving the geo-information, vector map plotting, and the overlapping data of the business, the thematic map and so on. Moreover, the platform provides several business systems with technical supports and function interface designed for service.
