In recent years, with the rapid development of mobile terminal technology, more and more applications attached to the mobile terminal platform become hot. These applications give a lot of convenience and fun in people’s life and work. The development of industries in the fields of mobile terminals has get an unprecedented height and becomes better and faster. Image processing techniques get more and more attentions as mobile terminals techniques and it makes hard work easier. Image recognition technology has been used in many fields maturely enough include fire warning, license plate recognition and face recognition and so on.As a basis of mobile terminal development and image recognition technology, the thesis designs a pest identification system based on the Android platform which used to achieve the effect of pest living in the granary identification. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part describes the design and implementation of the system, including Design and implementation of mobile terminals, the design of communication between the terminal and the server and design and implementation of the server. Pests images have been collected by mobile terminal and been passed to the server side according to a fixed data communication exchange programs. The image recognition happens after the images have been received and the result will been send to the terminal. The second part analyses and contracts the principle and application of the algorithm according the characteristics of the image of pests living in the granary. It then discusses a method of pest classified identification based on the shape and color of the pests.In the process of designing and implementing the system, by using the Web Service lightweight communication framework, I solved the data exchange problem between Android mobile terminal and the server. Based on this method, the thesis discusses a communication mode of mobile terminal to exchange data with the server through mobile network. The mode makes up the excessive dependence on hardware condition of the mobile terminal platform. The model can provide a reference for the development of other similar software. The thesis uses the image recognition algorithm. By analyzing and comparing the result, the thesis summarizes the algorithm in the implementation stage of the system. The thesis discusses a method of pest identification based on the shape and color of the pests living in the granary. It hopes that the method can provide some reference for the development of image recognition in other fields.
