A direct projector or digital projector, which also known as a Video Showcase, is an image projector that converts documents, pictures, information into image signal and projects the corresponding image on a projection screen. Recently, Portable Video Showcases on the market usually have high energy consumption and high cost. To solve this problem, a new kind of Portable Video Showcase based on embedded real-time image processing platform, combined with the ARM9’s characteristics of high performance, low power consumption, low cost and the FPGA’s capability of transporting and processing high-resolution images, is put forward. Weighted resistor network is used to substitute for professional video DAC chip to reduce the costs. Embedded Linux operating system is innovatively introduced into the ARM9’s hardware in image processing platform to ensure the real-time image acquisition, transmission and display. The Portable video Showcase which is designed has many characteristics, such as easy to carry, low energy consumption, low cost, high definition-display and so on.Modular design principle is used in this paper and the scheme is divided into ARM9module and LCD to VGA module. OV9655CMOS camera is used to capture image and transmit the signal to LCD To VGA module. XC3S50AN chip is used to improve image frame rate to match the frame rate needs of VGA display by controlling high-speed SDRAM read and write upgraded the original frequency15Hz to60Hz. The display resolution is1024x768. In software design, to satisfy the requirements of real-time image acquisition and display, embedded Linux operating system is introduced in image processing platform. The main reason is that embedded Linux system has advantages, such as opened source, small kernel, efficiency and stable performance, good system tailoring and porting and so on. In VGA to LCD module, hardware design tools are ISE and VHDL.Relevant chips and devices based on design are selected, circuit board is produced and debugged. The test result proved that the design is workable and working well.
