MBD technology is used to completely define digital information of products. This technology was developed by Boeing Company on the basis of the original techniques when it developed airplanes. By integrating digital manufacturing technologies, new generation of digital model definition technology came into being. In the paper, MBD technology is applied to a three-dimensional (3D) labeling system to realize the comprehensive digital definition of3D models.In the paper, a design information digital labeling system architecture based on MBD is presented. Through the induction and consolidation of the design information of3D models, an MBD model and the function modules of the system are designed. According to3D model feature information description requirements, an Access database is created to support the design information digital labeling system. And through ODBC interface, the seamless link of UG and database is realized. Using UG development tools UG/open, UG/Open API, UG/Open Menu Script module and Visual C++6.0programming environment, the labeling system menus, labeling functions and user interface are developed. Taking a shaft for example, the operation of the developed prototype system is illustrated. Thus, the labeling of3D model design information is realized.
