As the connector of information exchange between intelligent instrument and user, HMI(human machine interface) is more intuitive impacted user’s experience than the other modules of intelligent instrument. A good HMI helps intelligent instrument to meet the needs of protable, easy operation, etc. At present portable intelligent instruments are mainly using laptop or PDA as HMI, laptop has peoblems with protable and poor battery life compared with mobile terminal, while PDA was limited by it’s function, so these two methods can not fully meet the needs of user experience.In consideration of smart mobile terminal has boomed over the past several years, especially it’s interactive technology are continuously break through, this paper proposed that apply Android device into HMI of intelligent instruments, therefore some research as fllows has done:First of all, this paper analyzed the system model, composition, the development tendency of HMI and it’s application status in the field of intelligent instrument, then aimed at the needs of intelligent instruments on basic interaction, communication, charting and data storage, some research has been done about the ability of Android technology to meet those needs, results showed that, compared with most interactive devices of intelligent instrument, interaction techniques of Android system are more advanced, and there’s good prospects in the field of intelligent instrument for Android.Secondly, After the detailed requirements analysis of railway wheel profile measuring instrument,a terminal software based on Android system for this instrument has been designed. This software selected Bluetooth wireless communication technology, SurfaceView charting mechanism, and SD card storage device as implementation mechanisms. After successfully building the Eclipse integrated development environment, layout, functional modules, and main interface were respectively adopted as view layer, model layer, and controller layer, this terminal software has been implemented based on MVC model.Finally, installed the application to Android devices, the test and analysis of this application have done with the measuring instruments and the model of wheel’s tread. Result shows that the application can meet the needs such as real-time communications, charting and data storage, the ways of interacting are convenient, it’s measurement result is stable and reliable, this software for train wheel profilometer reach the practical level.
