HP labs announced that the TiO2memristor being fabricated in2008. Nanoscale structure,memory charge, and compatible with CMOS process are features for memristor. The emergence ofmemristor has the potential to improve or even change the entire electronic circuits and itsapplications theories. It is only five years to make research for such a multi-function device, thebasic properties and application of memristor need explore more.This paper focused on that studying on digital FPGA models of memrisotr and its applicationsin digital discrete chaotic maps. Furthermore, we designed a confidential communication softwareapplied in LAN. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Upon studying the basic properties of memristor, we constructed two digital memristormodels for FPGA, which built by the theory of its voltage and current relationship. Onecurrent-controlled and one voltage-controlled memristor models are built. Simulation results and thehardware implemention results by FPGA are fully comply with memristor’s theory.(2) Study on the low-dimensional discrete memristor-based chaotic mapping, whichconstructed by digital memristor model and other blocks embedded in DSP Builder There are twochaotic mappings built by changing existing chaotic maps and its parts replaced by memristormodel. It is one one-dimensional and one two-dimensional discrete chaotic mapping. Both chaoticmaps are implemented by FPGA. Analysis of dynamic characteristics for two memristor-basedchaos concluded that memristor can be used as a nonlinear devices in constructing low-dimensionalchaotic maps. This provided a new idea for memristor used in discrete low-dimensional chaoticmappings.(3)A confidential communication software for LAN is designed, which programmed in VCcondition and based on windows in computer. This software serviced two or more userscommunicating in secretively. The encryption keys are generated by memristor-based chaoticmappings, and the encryption algorithms are chaotic steam cipher and chaotic-based DES. Thissoftware works well when testing.
