An Analysis Of Television Media Coverage On The Rural Left-behind Phenomenon

As a great number of rural migrant workers live a back and forth life, the children,elders and women they left behind rural area constitute a special social phenomenon,called the rural left-behind phenomenon. People who are left behind are on the largescale, widely distributed and also have a lot of problems. This phenomenon has beenpaid more attention by media and scholars. People prefer to rely on the media,especially television coverages, to get the news of the left-behind phenomenon. Thispaper adopts quantitive analysis,along with the author’s interview experience, tomake a sample survey on the CCTV news reports on the left-behind phenomenon. Byselecting some related data from2011to2014, we try to analyze the characteristics ofnews reports on the phenomenon.In the part of introduction, this paper tries to make a definition of these reportson the left-behind phenomenon, to make a summary for the past researches, and to putforward the this research’s meaning and innovative points by contrast to theinsufficiences of the past researches.The first part of this paper is the overview of the reports on the rural left-behindphenomenon.Statistics analysis have been made by the reports’ number, interannualvariability, length, type,view,theme, geographical relationship and attitude etc.The second part analyze the characteristics of the reports content by using thepseudo-environment theory. Television news coverages present more differentappearances including the lonely children lack of love, the elders who live alone inthe rural houses and the women who are the main labor force. We make an emphasison the three main problems of education,safety,nursing for elders and the three mainneeds of material,policy and emotion. The third part analyze the forms characteristics of these reports on left-behindphenomenon by using the constructivism representation theory. These characteristicsincluding intervention of reporters, series effect,technique of fashion group byindividuals and the subjective views of these reportsThe fourth part make a summary of the deviation of these reports on left-behindphenomenon and put forward to some measures to solve these problems. There existsome prejudice and excessive emotional points in the reports on left-behindphenomenon. The author propose some measures like balancing the reports’ attitudes,making reasonable plans and reconstruct the discourse of Chinese mass mediacriticism.This paper has a strong practicality.We look forward to make a contribution toour television reports researches on the left-behind phenomenon, even to the broaderfields.
