This thesis relates the foundation knowledge of chaos and the structure of erbium-doped dual-ring fiber laser, and its working principle as well as the application. Then, we investigate chaos generation in erbium-doped fiber dual-ring lasers (EDDRFL), including numerical simulation and experimental study. In the numerical simulations, two schemes are used to investigate generation of chaos in EDDRFL. They are changing loss coefficient and adding delay feedback loop in the EDDRFL, respectively; And the strength and delay time of feedback signal are adjusted, then the EDDRFL can go into chaotic state. The numerical simulation results illustrate that system can enter into chaos state from period state, and enter into period state from chaos state by changing the control parameter. In the experimental investigations, we set up the experimental systems of EDDRFL and EDDRFL with the delay feedback loop. The chaos generations in EDDRFL are achieved by adjusting the attenuation of the attenuators used in the EDDRFL and the strength and delay time of feedback signal. Moreover the routes of going to chaos are analyzed. The experimental results are compared with the numerical simulation results, and they are consistent.
