In recent years, CAD model simplification technology has been paid more and moreattentions for the requirement of seamless integration of CAD/CAE. Many small feature oftenexist in the CAD models, which are irrelevant to engineering analysis. So it’s significant forus to simplify the CAD models by suppressing the small features automatically before themesh generation. This thesis mainly researed the algorithms for automatically recognizing three kinds ofsmall features, such as fillet, chamfer and hole. And, two sorts of schemes for the featuresuppression were developed. The thesis is organized as follows:Chapter1introduces the main research contents, current status and problems on CADsimplification technology, and describes the developing tools, introducing the B-rep datastructure, ACIS and VC++6.0development environment respectly.Chapter2、3、4respectly present the recognition algorithms for the blend, chamfer andhole features. By setting threshold value, the qualified recognized features are left as thecandidates for suppression.Chapter5puts forward two sorts of schemes for the feature suppression. One issuppressing the recognized features as a whole, while the other is dividing the recognizedfeature into several components and suppressing them step by step. The final chapter summarizes the main results and makes conclusions of the thesis. Somefuture research work is also described.
