With the rapid development of modern information technology andcommunications industry, the traditional TV is experiencing portability after thereforms of digitized and networked. Mobile digital radio and television have beenwidely used in mobile phones, mobile multimedia players, laptops, bus TVs,home set-top boxes for high-definition digital TVs and other fields. To ensure theeffectiveness and stability of wireless broadcast signal coverage is one of the keyto the development of wireless broadcast TV. Therefore, the measured data testedby radio signal coverage testing is important for its coverage planning,implementation and post-maintenance. The importance of horizontal and verticaldevelopment of the TV broadcasting can not be ignored.Field test is a common way to test the urban wireless signal coverage.Presently, field testers support only one mode broadcast signal. While in manycases, the test task contains a number of different modes of broadcast signals.Thus the field tester with the multi-mode-signal support can fully meet the workrequirements.This paper starts from the status of wireless digital TV broadcasting, brieflyintroducts the applications of wireless digital TV broadcasting standard at homeand abroad at present. For independent research and development wirelessbroadcast standards of “Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting”and “China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting”, this paper puts forward the designof field tester which supports to measure both these standards of signals, and thengives its detailed design discussion and hardware and software design andimplementation.The different modules of field tester are connected by FPGA chip. Tester ispositioned by the GPS module, and gets power and communicates with host computer by USB interface. The software of host computer designs with C++and Visual C#Language. The functions of field tester are detecting, displaying,and recording the strength of both “Digital Television Terrestrial MultimediaBroadcasting” and “China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting” signals, and real-time decoding playback of broadcast TV. The dual-mode field tester systemdesigned in this paper has a great advantage in cost control, power control, andmodule volume compared to conventional single-mode field test system.
