Abstract: With the quickening of urbanization in our country, especially the development zones, variety conflicts, for instance, the sharp contradiction between population and land resources, the frequent changes in land use, result that the traditional land information managements fail to meet the increasing needs of achieving sustainable development of the national economy. As an important tool of decision making and displaying, GIS technologies are more and more valuable to land management when people face to the massive spatial land data to gain the analysis results. Therefore, the trend of combining GIS and Internet technology in the land management field is irreversible, which helps to improve the standard for scientific management and sustainable development of the land. The paper generalizes the advantages and meanings of the application of GIS to land management. After analyzing the current research status and existing problems, the author builds a land management system for the development zones by SQL Server, MapGIS, Silverlight,.NET and spatial distributed database technologies to achieve the modules such as map operation, querying data and system maintenance. The problems existing in the traditional land management (the poor visualization, the complicated searching process, the low-level interaction)are settled by introducing the GIS technology. In consideration of the mentioned defects, several significant features are emphasized in the system, including the security, open, interaction and extensibility. The study realizes information sharing in data warehouse with the support of computer hardware and software. What’s more, it is a helpful exploring in the field of land management through spatial data managing, displaying, processing and mining.
