Detector is widely used in testing instrument, microwave radar and communicationequipment. With the advancement of millimeter wave technology and technological,millimeter wave monolithic detector has been developed gradually. MMIC technologyis not as advance as foreign countries, so hybrid integrated design method is still themain choice to design wave detector in China.In all sorts of millimeter wave system, low loss transmission medium is needed forsignal transmission and realization of passive and active circuits. Microstrip line and finline are introduced in this paper. W band waveguide to fin line and waveguide toantipodal fin line to microstrip are studied and simulated.Optimization is needed in Electromagnetic simulation, but the optimizationmethods in commercial software such as HFSS are inherently flawed. To solve thisproblem, genetic algorithm is studied, and MATLAB is used to realize the applicationof genetic algorithm optimization in HFSS. A last, W-band waveguide to microstriptransition is optimized with genetic algorithm.The traditional coaxial to microstrip line ’hard connection’ is easy to fracture whichmay cause the unstability of space-based and missile-borne systems.’Soft connection’ ispresented in this paper to solve this problem. Electrical, mechanical and thermalperformances were simulated to verify the reliability of coaxial to microstrip line softconnection methods from different angles.To compensate the influence caused by parasitic parameters of diode which couldnot be ignored in W band, mode of diode is presented based on full-wave EM simulator.Suitable low loss pass filter and matching architecture were chosen to design W banddetector. The testing result shows that the detector designed in this paper could meetapplication demands and be reproducible.
