Now, with the3G(GPS, GIS and GPRS)technologies becoming more and moremature. GIS(Geographic Information System) system has been widely used ineverywhere, especially in the pipeline asseting management. Generally speaking, thecable is laid under the ground. Others, such as tunnels, underground structures andgeological structure buildings are hidden under the ground. Apart from these, theresources such as lines, sites and others distribute everywhere. All these features give usa lot of inconvenience. The traditional methods used to record these data are using CADdrawings, or just use tables. Using theses methods, not only modification of the data hassome difficulty, but also hard to store them or manage them.Today, the GIS technology has unique advantages in dealing with problems inbroadband industry. Using the GIS technology can very easy to achieve visualization. Itis also very usetable to magnage the data that are widely distributed, dynamic ordiscrete. Apart from these, it is adept at building layers, managing overlapping layersand dealing with massive data storaging. Therefore, the construction and managementof the pipeline companies in the broadband, GIS has irreplaceable use role. Opticalnetwork data has a typical spatial location attributes. Therefore, using of GIStechnology is ideal for optical network resource management tool. Meanwhile, with thehelp of GIS technology, we can manage and see the resources of optical network. It cangive us lots of helps in quickly locate space, improving resource efficiency of planningand troubleshooting, and promoting broadband enterprise technology managementlevel. In this paper, based on B/S structure, we use GIS technology as the basis.Meanwhile we use other relevant technology to building an optical network informationmanagement system. With the help of the system, uses can not only store and modifydata, but also let the data be presented as a graphic. All these features can give usersmuch convenience.
