Urban garden greening plays quiet a key role in improving environment, maintaining urban ecological balance, beautifying landscape and enhancing people’s physical and mental health. For the latest two decades, with the quicken speed of world-wide urbanization and the intensifying environmental problems, people come to the awareness of urban garden greening as an important means to improve ecological environment. Many countries have regarded it as a main measure standard of urban modernization and civilization. Therefore, greening construction has drawn much attention from the global governments and lead to more emphasis on the construction and scientific management of urban garden greening information system.In recent years, GIS has gone deep into the field of urban garden greening construction in our country. Garden greening GIS can obtain the status of green resource and its change timely, accurately and dynamically. Through reasonable garden space analysis, it will be exercising dynamic supervision and management as well as making scientific planning and layout, improving environment and realizing sustainable development.Through analysis of garden types of facilities in urban garden industry, this paper discussed facility classification of urban garden and designed GIS spatial database for urban garden and put it into application. Based on garden GIS spatial database, garden GIS data management system has been made by combining the practical conditions of Nanjing Gardens. Applications indicate that the proposed system herein can well increase management efficiency and promote it to a higher lever. The essay deals with the information system in those aspects as follows:(1)The necessity and practicability of the system. it is pointed out to set up the theoretical base, the technical base and the systematic frame of the system.(2)The access to its space datum and attribute datum and the method to store them in a unific way.(3)detailed design of gardening rules, forestation projects, garden keeping and ancient trees protection, inquiry and statistics, map output, system organization and other subordinate functions and other relative data dictionaries.
